Bird Themed Sensory Bath

So, this is by no means like some of my other very thought out themed baths I have posted in the past. My daughter asked me right at bath time the other night to make her a bird themed bath, and I'm going to share my impromptu ideas with you, because she actually did like it a lot!

First for the paint. I made the bath paint by mixing shaving cream and some blue food coloring in a little bowl with a paint brush. I chose blue because I was thinking blue bird. Then I stuck in some feathers that we had in our craft bin, and put it out on the side of the tub with a little owl bath toy.

Then what made a really cool sensory experience and made me decide to share was the feathers in the water. Not to mention how beautiful they looked when floating!

A big part of sensory play for kids is discovering new tactile sensations they haven't experienced before. Feathers in water is surely a pretty rare one. So, you can add feathers to a bath of yours for a simple bird themed sensory bath like this, or just put some feathers into a bin of water for some water play featuring a new sensory experience.

As you may have noticed I colored the water a bit, and it's not pictured by I also tossed in some plastic eggs because we have them out since Easter is coming up, and hey birds do come from eggs! Plastic Easter eggs always make a great addition to a bath, and I can't wait to do my daughters bath filled with them on Easter!

Teddy Bear Bath

Want to delight your little one with a teddy bear themed bath? Just follow these simple steps!

Use a teddy bear shaped cookie cutter to press into some craft foam sheets in various colors, and then cut them out the rest of the way. They will stick to the walls of the tub when they get wet. 

To make the teddy bear bath paint mix shaving cream and brown washable tempera paint in a bowl until you get the desired color. Then carefully put some drops of black washable tempera paint on for the eyes and nose. Use a paint brush with black paint on it to make the ears and mouth though.

Cat's Hat Bath Paint and Thing 1&2 Bath Paint

Dr. Seuss Day was yesterday and I made this awesome bath paint for my daughter the other day to get her excited about it!

For the Cat's Hat Bath Paint I used a small baking sheet, squirted some shaving cream on it in the shape of a hat, and then put a few drops of red food coloring in rows to make the stripes, took a paint brush and spread the food coloring drops out to make the stripes. 

For the Thing 1&2 Bath Paint I just put some shaving cream in a little plastic bowl and then mixed in some blue food coloring. Just like their hair! 

Frankenstein Bath Paint

To make baths near Halloween time extra special there's some things you can do. One thing is making Frankenstein Bath Paint!

All you'll need is:

• Shaving cream
• Neon green food coloring
• Black food coloring
• Little plastic bowls
• A makeup brush or paint brush

Put the shaving cream into the bowls, then add a few squirts of the food coloring into the shavig creams. Use the makeup brush or paint brush to stir in the colors into the shaving cream.

It makes beautiful bath artwork!

Halloween Bath Paint

Here's our Halloween bath paints! I put them all in a muffin tin so my daughter could use them all as she pleased. The left side of the muffin tin was our Candy Corn Bath Paints (white, orange, and yellow). The other side was just general Halloweeny colors (green, purple, black). To make each one I just used a bit of shaving cream from Dollar Tree, and a few squirts of the appropriate colors of food coloring. Mixed together with a makeup brush and given to my daughter with said makeup brush to create with. It made beautiful bath art!

Butterfly Bath with Create a Butterfly Bath Paint

 This butterfly bath itself couldn't be more simple and frugal! There's not a whole lot to it, because the bath paint that I created is the main focus.

All I did was color the water with neon green food coloring, and put up some craft foam butterflies on the wall. You can buy these from Dollar Tree, or cut your own out of your own craft foam. All you need to do is get them wet and they magically stick to the walls of the tub. Drying is easy too and they can be used again and again for baths, or used again for a craft.

Now for the bath paint. We went to a place the other day where we got to see lots of different types of butterflies, so that experience is very fresh in my daughter's mind! We took home a brochure from there that has several different butterflies on it with pictures and names. Well after looking at that yesterday I had decided we needed to make bath paint to create these gorgeous creatures ourselves on our shower walls! So, I used a tray with multiple sections from Dollar Tree, and made black, neon blue, neon green, neon pink, and orange bath paints. To make the paints you just need shaving cream and food coloring. Squirt a little shaving cream into each spot on your tray, or into each bowl, whatever you're using. Then you squirt some food coloring into each one (one color each) and mix that in one by one, rinsing paint brush or makeup brush in between each color.

These were the colors of some our favorite butterflies, so with these we could make them! The orange and black for example made the Orange Tiger butterfly. The black was needed a lot for body and antennae of the butterfly, so that's why I put that color in the middle. I also sat our plastic Monarch Butterfly that we got from the gift shop on the paint for pizzazz. 

My daughter was so excited about this bath. I'm sure your kids would be too!

Three Good Fairies Bath Paints

Anybody remember the three good fairies from Disney's Sleeping Beauty?

Well, since we're in our fairytale themed week this week I decided I would make bath time a little more fun by making a few different colors of bath paint to represent the three good fairies. 

Flora bath paint:

Squirt some shaving cream into a small dish or a section of a muffin tin. Add in a few drops of red food coloring and mix in with a makeup brush or paint brush. 

Merryweather bath paint:

Squirt some shaving cream into a small dish or section of a muffin tin. Add in a few drops of blue or neon blue food coloring and mix in with a makeup brush or paint brush.

Fauna bath paint:

Squirt some shaving cream into a small dish or section of a muffin tin. Add in a few drops of green or neon green food coloring and mix in with a makeup brush or paint brush.

When you make them all together at one time you've got Three Good Fairies Bath Paints!

I put them out near the tub, which I had filled with water and added a few drops of neon pink food coloring too. I made the water pink since that is the color of Princess Aurora's gown in Sleeping Beauty. So the bath in all represents Princess Aurora and her three good fairies.

When all the colors of paint were used together they made beautiful bathtub masterpieces!

Rapunzel's Magic Golden Flower Bath Paint

Like I mentioned before in my Tower Craft post, this week is our fairytale themed week AND my daughters been obsessed with Tangled lately. Sooo when making some regular old purple bath paint last night I got this great idea! I wanted to make the bath paint look like those little purple flag things from the movie with the yellow sun/magic flower shape on them. They're pretty significant since Rapunzel herself is looking at one when she realizes she's the lost princess.

My daughter LOVED seeing my rendition of this in her bath paint, and when she used it the two colors worked beautifully together.

To create it yourself you'll need:
- shaving cream
- a plastic dish
- makeup brush or paint brush
- neon purple food coloring
- yellow food coloring

Step 1: Squirt the desired amount of shaving cream into the container.
Step 2: Squirt in some of the neon purple food coloring and mix that in with the brush until all the shaving cream is colored.
Step 3: Rinse off the brush and squirt a dollop of shaving cream onto it. It should be big enough that you can plop it right in the middle of your already made purple bath paint in the container.
Step 4: Take your brush and carefully (as not to turn it purple) smooth out the dollop of new white shaving cream and drag out some lines like slightly curvy rays of the sun.
Step 5: Add just a few drops of yellow food coloring into the center of the sun shape. If you use too much it'll end up orange. Now, take the brush again and do like you did with the shaving cream in step 4, but to spread around the yellow color.
Step 6: Present to child and let them enjoy.

Colors of the Wind Bath Paint

I made this bath paint for my daughter after we watched her Disney Princess Sing-a-long DVD. One of the songs is the one from Pocahontas where she sings about the colors of the wind. The song is so magical and my daughter just loves it, so I knew she'd love this bath paint..and she did!

To make this bath paint you'll need:

- A muffin tin with 6 spaces

- Shaving cream

- Washable tempera paint, or food coloring in the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. We used washable tempera paint for this batch of bath paint, so that's what you see in the picture above. 

I just squirted some shaving cream into each muffin tin section, and then one by one added some washable tempera paint and mixed it in with a makeup brush, rinsing between colors of course.

Shimmering Night Sky Bath Paint

What more fun could you add to a bedtime bath than Shimmering Night Sky Bath Paint? 

                                

Recipe:
- Shaving cream
- Neon blue food coloring
- Multi-colored glitter
- make up brush or paint brush
- bowl

Just mix the shaving cream and food coloring in a bowl with your brush of choice. Then shake in some glitter and mix that in a little bit. It should be beautifully shimmering and ready for bath time painting.

To not get any glitter down your drain you can purchase a mesh bath tub strainer for the drain.

Christmas Tree Bath Paints

We often use themed baths as a way to get excited for upcoming holidays and events. In December a favorite we have is using Christmas Tree Bath Paints. These allow my daughter to create and decorate her very own Christmas tree again and again. It's a great process art since you're obviously unable to save the finished product anyway.

Here are the paints

To make these bath paints all you need is 

- shaving cream

- make up brush or paint brush

- food colorings, green for the Christmas tree, and whatever colors you want for the ornaments. We used red, yellow, and blue.

- containers to hold the paints, we like muffin tins and dip bowls

- essential oils for scents optional. You could use eucalyptus if your child has a cold, or peppermint if you want a Christmasy feel. You just need a few drops in the green bath paint.

You just put the shaving cream into each container, then add the drops of food coloring to each and mix them together with your paint brush or make up brush, rinsing off after each color so they don't mix. 

Set the paints out during bath time and tell your child to make you a Christmas tree! They will delight in this opportunity, especially if the big Christmas tree is off limits to them.
