Bird Themed Sensory Bath

So, this is by no means like some of my other very thought out themed baths I have posted in the past. My daughter asked me right at bath time the other night to make her a bird themed bath, and I'm going to share my impromptu ideas with you, because she actually did like it a lot!

First for the paint. I made the bath paint by mixing shaving cream and some blue food coloring in a little bowl with a paint brush. I chose blue because I was thinking blue bird. Then I stuck in some feathers that we had in our craft bin, and put it out on the side of the tub with a little owl bath toy.

Then what made a really cool sensory experience and made me decide to share was the feathers in the water. Not to mention how beautiful they looked when floating!

A big part of sensory play for kids is discovering new tactile sensations they haven't experienced before. Feathers in water is surely a pretty rare one. So, you can add feathers to a bath of yours for a simple bird themed sensory bath like this, or just put some feathers into a bin of water for some water play featuring a new sensory experience.

As you may have noticed I colored the water a bit, and it's not pictured by I also tossed in some plastic eggs because we have them out since Easter is coming up, and hey birds do come from eggs! Plastic Easter eggs always make a great addition to a bath, and I can't wait to do my daughters bath filled with them on Easter!

Tops & Tails Veggie Exploration

Aw, my girl when she was younger!

This was a great activity for her and would keep her occupied when I was cooking dinner. I would give her the parts of veggies I wasn't using in the meal. This time it was the tops and tails of yellow squash and zucchini. She got to explore the sensory aspects of them and play around.

Cotton Candy Cloud Dough Recipe and Pretend Play Shop

I am going to share a fabulous cloud dough recipe and warm weather outdoor pretend play set up.

First, here's the fabulous cotton candy cloud dough itself!

Recipe:
- 8 cups of flour
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- a packet or two of Duncan Hines Frosting Creations cotton candy

Stir it all together in a big bowl.

Then take it outside and set it up for your little one to open up a pretend play sensory cotton candy shop.

I made a sign with pink construction paper that said Cotton Candy $.25 and put it out on an outdoor table along with pretend money, two little bowls, a measuring spoon, and a big bowl full of the cotton candy cloud dough.

I also provided my daughter with an apron.

 

She did her pretend play shop for a while, and then I gave her another large bowl for her to transfer, like toddlers love to do.

Halloween Cloud Dough

More Halloween sensory play! Fill up a big bin with either homemade cloud dough or a couple boxes of cake dough. Then add in some measuring cups and Halloween fun (candy corns, plastic bugs, Halloween erasers, etc.) 

I also had a nifty little plastic half of a pumpkin thing that my daughter used to make Halloween cloud dough cupcakes with candy corns in them. This could also be done with silicone baking liners.

Eyeball Squish Bags Contained Sensory Play for Halloween

My daughter loves squish bags! I made these last year for one of the favors given out at her Halloween party. They were very easy to make and I thought they were super cute, and extra squishy!

What kid wouldn't love one of these?

What you'll need to make them:
-Sandwich sized Ziploc bags
- Clear hair gel (can purchase this at dollar store)
- Food coloring, whatever colors you want. I only have pictures of orange and blue, but I also made neon green, yellow, and pink/red. I tried to give kids their favorite color.
- I added a few squishy eyeballs to each bag. They are relatively cheap, about $2 for 12 of them. Not bad. They're at Party City every year around Halloween time. Here's a link also for all you online shoppers

I promise you, kids will love these! You probably won't be able to resist playing with one yourself.
